Have you ever seen a entrepreneur or retail business or you name it and been like I wish I could be an overnight success like they are have you ever felt that way I know I have in this week I had a coaching call with someone who referred to backup pollock for my last episode. Ah. As an overnight success and kind of wishing that they had parts of her story and so I want to share with you. Some of the tips and advice that I gave this client and hopefully it serves you? Well so as always I'm going to queue the theme and then we'll hop right into it.

So this week I'm on a call and we're talking with I'm talking with this client about the things they're trying to do online and with social and ads and whatever and they said hey I know you worked with Becca and I really just wish I could be an overnight success like her. Ah and. What's funny I actually think Beck and I joked about that which if you haven't listened to that episode. It was really really good and I think it's definitely worth listening to so I would go back to it? Um, but have you ever ah thought about someone as an overnight success and if you've been friends with someone that has been referred to that you probably know. It's not quite that simple. You know it's this idea of like let's say we have a lake and you have a bunch of um like those pads that why my butn lily pads. Ah and let's just say that we want to say okay, how long would it take to fill this lake and it's the lily pads double every single day so at None there's None and the next day there's 2 and the next day there's 4 and then None and so on well the interesting thing is let's say it takes none of the none. Well how many days does it take to fill all of it. Well 11 you know it? What seemed like this overnight thing really wasn't it was this buildup. And to a degree I think success really snowballs and so how do we? if if we can't be this overnight success and we know that um, that kind of aspiration really is something that is only seen from the outside most of the time like you think of your favorite. Sports players or you know influencers or whatever it didn't happen immediately. It was a slow build now. It doesn't mean that some pieces don't happen quickly. It doesn't mean that some people don't have advantages that that really help them get there faster. But it does mean that we all have to put in work and it is a slow build for all of us. So what do we do? What do we focus on and there's 3 things that I want to share that I think can help you um one we wanted to find what our goal is you know if we are running and we're trying to move in a direction. If we don't know where we're going. It's really difficult to say this is how I want to get there and you know we can have short-term goals and short-term goals can help us in the short term I want more money I want more revenue I want more whatever but the problem is is if we only ever live short-term goal to shortterm goal. What ends up happening honestly is we build a business that we hate running. You know if we just chase more revenue. Well why do you want that? more revenue is it to fuel a lifestyle that you're after is it to provide for your family in a way that maybe you didn't grow up with.

Okay, well, what's the why behind Matt okay, well maybe it's because your childhood was None experience and you hope that your kids have a different one. Well what goes into that there is likely yes some financial resources but there's probably also things like time so when we really dig into what our deeper goals are we can say okay. What's the none step to get there and we can start to make short-term goals but in light of the big picture. Um, but if we say that we want to be a quote unquote overnight success we need to define what success means so for you like some good questions to ask is None um, what do you want in the short term like what what is some of your immediate goals over the next year but if we were to go forward 5 1015 years from now. What is your life and business look like that would make you say like yes this has all been worth it and we we really want to define what those things are. In the business and outside of the business and it doesn't mean that those goals always are are amazing like sometimes we could have conflicting goals like we want a ton of time off but we want this massive team and realizing okay, well we either need to be hands off with that team or. We. We need to kind of realign but generally speaking I think most of us if we can define exactly where we're wanting to go. It's going to make the path easier to get there so that's number 1 number 2 pursue it with patience pursue that goal but with patience. Ah. It's really really easy to you know I remember ah we I was talking with someone who wanted to start like doing live sales because they saw all that comments sold was doing and they went and did one live sale and they came back on. They're like oh my gosh I didn't really sell much it wasn't worth it. Live sales don't work. And oh my gosh like of course like you can't just do it None time and then judge the successor failure of an entire sales channel based on None time. No like it. It is something that takes a long. It takes a lot of effort over a long period of time. A lot of the people you see that have. Large social followings and a ton of engagement got there because they were posting consistently for years and as platforms have shifted and evolved they have stayed with it and evolved their strategy around what their customers resonating with and what platforms are pushing us to but it takes patience to do that. And so we we want to have patients saying. Okay if I'm moving in the right direction and I'm asking the right questions on if my activity is fruitful and if it's working. Ah okay, my bigger goals are going to come and I'm going to keep my head down and I'm going to keep working on these things.

And then the none and this really goes hand in hand with number two is we want to disconnect from the results. We want to disconnect from the results and what I mean here is you know, have you ever posted and immediately gone like 3 minutes later and you look at likes. And you didn't get as many as you wanted and you look an hour later and you're like oh my gosh this wasn't great and then we maybe like shift our strategy or or even at a minimum or mindset around it because of the results of that single action. Well I think if we're really pursuing long-term goals here. We're not looking at a single product a single launch a single category a single ah social channel or a single anything. We're really looking at this at the micro level or at the macro level. You know micro is looking at the granular things but macro is where we can disconnect from the success or failure. Both and say hey regardless of the the short term results that happen good or bad. Um I know that we're moving in the right direction. You know if we were to line graph it and really kind of pull out where we're going what we want to look at is the upward trend not the really high spikes or maybe even. The lows that are going to come along the way because if we just stay so glued to individual results. What happens is really our our mindset gets dictated by it and when things go well, it's good and we're obviously like we're made and we're overjoyed and we think we are invincible. But when we have bad months when we have bad days when we have bad hours. We're just destroyed and it's really hard to pull out of that and the solution isn't to just say how do I pull out of this but it's to say how do I not let those situations define me so I hope that this has been helpful for you. If you've been looking at some retailers or entrepreneurs and wondering how can I be an overnight success like them know that one. They're not an overnight success. It was a long build for them and it was something that they had to define where they wanted to go pursue with patience and disconnect. Ah, from the short term highs and lows and instead really look at the big picture of are they growing or are they not in adjust accordingly. So I hope this is helpful for you and as always please ah subscribe and leave us a review on your favorite platform. It's so helpful for us and I will catch you next time.
